How Savorista delivers decaf delight with Awtomic's Shuffle

“Sometimes people didn't know what they wanted to try. They kind of like having someone make the choice for them and the surprise of getting something new every time the package hit their mailbox. Some people use it as a way to rotate between different coffees and then find one they love and other people just love the variety and the surprise each month.” - Kait Brown, Founder

During a particularly stressful period at work, Kait realized how negatively caffeine was affecting her and that it was actually amplifying her stress. Reluctant to give up coffee altogether, she and her husband, Daniel, set out to make decaf coffee that didn’t feel like a sacrifice. It turned out that she wasn’t alone in her quest for delicious decaf coffee options and Savorista quickly found an audience of loyal customers.

Early on, the Savorista team introduced a subscription concept that their customers loved - the ability to subscribe to a Shuffle and get a different roast with every shipment so they could try them all. It quickly became one of their most popular products and they expanded it to include half-caf options or a mix of decaf and half-caf.

The downside - it had to be managed manually through a complex spreadsheet. Daniel was finding himself burning the midnight oil multiple times a week manually editing his spreadsheet to make sure customers got the right item next in their subscription, sending these confusing assignments to the team doing fulfillments. It was not only time intensive but error prone resulting in a sometimes less than magical customer experience, not to mention it was not something that they couldn’t scale without a lot of pain.

Partnering with Awtomic

Early on in their journey the Savorista team brought this innovative subscription concept to Awtomic. Excited to take on the challenge of making this a process that could scale and be a fun customer experience, Awtomic partnered with Savorista to design the Awtomic Shuffle.

Here’s how it works:

  • Build A Queue: The Savorista team can make a shuffle by selecting a list of items from their catalog. As long as their variants match (in their case grind and bag size) customers can even select variants when purchasing.
  • Configure Options: Shuffles can have a variety of options, including whether or not a customer can view what’s coming next, whether or not they can skip items in the list, and if the list automatically checks inventory and skips over sold out items. Shuffles can loop when they finish or expire as well.
  • Start selling and let it run! Shuffles can be sold like any normal product in an online store. The Awtomic system tracks which item should be in each order and automatically inserts it. No more manual work or tracking for the team! Sell as many as you want and let everyone experience a variety of products!

The Result

The Savorista team was able to cut out all the manual work related to shuffles, which cut out 4-6 hours a week from Daniel’s work load. The best part? Now they can invest in scaling subscriptions without fear of operational limitations.

“There’s no more manual work! We just let Awtomic communicate with Shopify when a customer buys a Shuffle. The time saved really adds up and our fulfillment team has said that things are a lot easier for them now as well.” - Kait Brown
